Group Descriptions
Please note that all decisions
for group changes are solely up to the coaching staff. The goals and guidelines listed below are
only a small part of what the coaches look at when making group
advancements. A swimmer may meet every
goal listed below, but still not move up to the next group level until the
coach feels the swimmer is ready emotionally and physically to move up.
Novice Group
This group is for 13 & under swimmers new to the sport of competitive
swimming. The Novice group will practice up to 3 times a week for up to
1 hour. After one to three sessions in the Novice Group swimmers will move
to the White Group.
White Group
This group is for a swimmer who has participated in the Novice Group,
but is not yet ready to move to the Blue Group. Typically these swimmers
are 6 to 12 years of age. The group swims up to 4 times a week for
up to an hour.
Blue Group
A swimmer must be approved by the coaches to swim in this group. This group is for 9+ year olds and advanced 8 year olds who have participated in at least one season of the White Group and are approved by the coaches to move up. Swimmers
must be able to consistently perform 3 of the 4 strokes legally, execute turns
and dive head first. They must be
emotionally and physically ready for a more demanding workout. A goal for swimmers to move to this group
would be to achieve 3 "C" times or higher for the 9-10 age group.
A swimmer must be able to meet the base
interval requirement of 50s on the 1:30 to swim in this group. The Blue Group swims up to 5 times a week
for an hour and a half with a minimum practice recommendation of 3 times per
week on average.
Indigo Group
A swimmer must be approved by the coaches to swim in this group. This group is for 9+ year olds and advanced 8 year olds who have participated in at least one season of the Blue Group and are approved by the coaches to move up. This group is for 12 and older swimmers who have competed on a Middle
School team and do not meet the time standard/base interval requirements
of Junior Purple. Swimmers must be able to consistently perform
all 4 strokes legally, and execute turns and starts. They must be emotionally and physically ready for a more demanding
workout. A goal for swimmers to move to this group would be to achieve 6 "B"
times or higher in the 9-10 age group. A swimmer must be able to meet the base interval requirement of 50s on
the 1:00 to swim in this group. The Indigo Group swims up to 5
times a week for an hour and a half with a minimum practice recommendation of 3
times per week on average.
Senior Purple Group
A swimmer must be approved by the coaches to swim in this group. This group is for 12 and older swimmers who have competed on a Varisty
High School team and who can meet the base interval requirement. They must
have a commitment and desire to train/practice at high levels, a commitment
to attending meets and be emotionally ready for a higher demand. A goal for swimmers to move to this group would be to achieve 4 “A” times
or faster in the 13-14 age group. A swimmer must be able to meet the base interval requirement of 50s on
the 40 to swim in this group. The Purple Group swims up to 5 times a week for up to two hours with a
minimum practice recommendation of 4 times per week on average.
